Who are we

2007-2019
2019-

Robie,  is no longer known to the general public. He was, however, honoured during his lifetime.
Founded in 2007, the Foundation gave itself the mission to Seek out and index  all the works by the painter

Jean Robie, a belgian and Brussels painter was awarded a first prize at the Sydney International Exhibition for Belgium in 1879, was a member of the Steering Committee of the Musées Royaux de Peinture et de Sculpture de l’Etat (Royal State Museums of Painting and Sculpture) from 1882 to 1908, was made a Knight of the Order of Leopold I, Commander of the Order of Leopold II, and a member of the Académie des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts, classe Beaux-Arts (Academy of Science, Letters and Fine Arts, Fine Arts category), in 1891. This “enduringly simple” man remains to this day a painter highly regarded on the international scene.

Like many Belgian artists in the 19th century, Jean Robie had to wait a long time for a monograph.

Based on personal and family research, we have gathered together the archives of the painter Jean Robie into a monograph in 2008, the result of an initiative by authors Kathleen de fays, Brigitte Schuermans and the Racine publishing house.

In his case, this is astounding, as his still-life pieces are constantly in great demand in the art trade and at auctions.

Many famous museums attest of its success : Uffizi Museum in Florence, the National Fine Arts Museum of Brussels, National Museum in Sydney, Boston, Schiedam, and many more!

The “little master of the 19th century” is  highly appreciated by a few connoisseurs and collectors but is still unknown by the general public.

So far,  over 950 pictures  have been indexed but numerous pictorial works are certainly yet to be discovered.

An “on line” catalog raisonné is planned for 2024 with Organica in order to hand over the painter-writer, Jean Robie to the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium

Our mission is to raise the public awareness toward our painter, to gather together the remnants of the painter’s artistic heritage and retranscribe the family memoirs passed down to the descendants of Emma and Jeanne Washer, the painter’s sole legatees.

The Foundation became a public utility foundation.
